Adrian Coppin is the fresh face in Australian rallying. At 27, he is the youngest fulltime driver contesting the Australian Rally Championship (ARC), and youngest driver to sign with Citroen Racing, leading their first season down under. Adrian has quickly risen to the top of his sport, winning Australian titles and competing internationally, all in four short years behind the wheel.
Adrian had his first taste of motorsport in the form of circuit racing, but quickly sought a greater challenge, one that could only be answered by rallying. Making the switch in 2009, Adrian took class honours at his first ever event and hasn’t looked back since. After only 2 years behind the wheel, Adrian secured second in class at his international debut at the Australian round of the World Rally Championship. The following year, Adrian competed in selected rounds of the ARC and was hot favourite to take out the junior title, hopes which were shattered by an unfortunate early retirement from the season due to team constraints. A year not gone to waste however, with Adrian being headhunted by Ford Australia during the season break to spear head their return to the sport.
2013 saw Adrian back with a new team and scores to settle, debuting Ford’s new car to the Australian market. Making up for the dream taken from him in 2012, Adrian took out the 2013 Australian 1600 Championship and the season title for Ford Australia in the category. His efforts gaining international attention, Adrian was invited to compete in Rally Croatia the same year, making his European rally debut, and marking another milestone in his comparatively short career.
After his success with Ford, Adrian was signed by Citroen Australia for the 2014 season. The prestigious manufacturer which has claimed nine world championships, were looking for no exceptions with their new venture down under, eager to secure Adrian for a three year contract. Settling in well to the new drive, Adrian secured third in the Australian Championship and helped Citroen secure the all prestigious manufactures championship in the debut season.
In August 2014, Adrian made his European World championship debut at Rally Germany, making him one of only four drivers to represent Australia at this level.
2015 saw Adrian step back into a privateer team running his own operation via 4 time Australian Rally Champion team Neal Bates Motorsport. Neal has mentored Adrian over the past couple of seasons and as the team sits in 3rd place in the championship only 60 points of the lead.
With an off season in 2017 with family and work commitments 2018 see’s Adrian return the championship in an all new Peugeot AP4, run by Perth based operation RaceTorque Engineering.
